Clarity comes first
Test the starting and charging system as one connected system.
Legacy Auto Repair evaluates battery condition, cable and terminal connections, starter operation, alternator output, and related electrical controls. Testing helps separate a weak battery from a charging, starting, wiring, connection, or parasitic-draw concern.
The battery stores electrical energy, the starter turns the engine, and the alternator supports the electrical system while the vehicle runs. Cables, grounds, belts, controls, and vehicle loads affect the same symptoms. A click, slow crank, dead battery, or dashboard warning is useful evidence, but it does not identify the failed part by itself.
01Document the starting symptom
We note whether the engine cranks, clicks, starts with a jump, fails intermittently, or shows a battery or charging warning.
02Test the connected system
Battery condition, voltage delivery, cables, grounds, starter operation, and charging output are checked as the symptom requires.
03Confirm the repair path
We explain the test findings and recommend only the component or circuit work supported by the evidence. Your estimate is always FREE. Final price depends on diagnosis, vehicle, parts required, and repair complexity.
04Repair and verify
After approved work, we verify starting and charging behavior and explain any remaining battery-use or electrical concern.
When to call
Tell us what you’re noticing.
Call for slow cranking, repeated clicking, an intermittent no-start, a battery or charging warning, repeated jump-starts, dimming lights, or electrical behavior that changes with engine speed. If cables become hot, smoke appears, a burning smell develops, or the vehicle loses electrical power while driving, stop safely and arrange an evaluation.
If the vehicle feels unsafe, overheats, loses oil pressure, shows a flashing check-engine light, or develops a severe brake or steering change, stop driving when it is safe and call us. We can help you choose the safest next step.
We service many European, domestic, and Japanese cars, SUVs, light trucks, hybrids, and fleet vehicles. Call with the year, make, and model so we can confirm that the vehicle is a fit for our shop.
Common questions
Helpful answers before you visit.
Does the battery warning light mean I need a new battery?+
Not necessarily. The warning can involve the charging system, alternator, belt, wiring, connections, controls, or system voltage. Testing identifies which part of the system needs attention.
Why does the car click but not start?+
Clicking can involve a weak battery, voltage loss through cables or grounds, starter operation, a relay or control concern, or another starting-system condition. The sound alone does not identify the failed part.
Can you test the starter and alternator before replacing them?+
Yes. Legacy evaluates the battery, cables, starter, alternator, and related system behavior so a replacement recommendation is based on test results rather than the symptom alone.
