Vehicle alterations

How modifications may affect coverage.

A non-factory alteration does not automatically mean every repair is excluded. Warranty coverage may not apply when an alteration caused, contributed to, or interfered with the diagnosed failure or the repair.

Modified components can place additional stress on related systems and can make it difficult to determine whether a covered repair failed or the alteration caused the concern. We evaluate each request based on the repair performed, the affected system, and the vehicle’s condition.

Examples of alterations

01

Performance tuning

Aftermarket engine software, ECU remapping, modified intake or exhaust systems, and other changes that alter factory performance.

02

Suspension or wheel changes

Lift kits, lowering springs, custom coilovers, oversized tires, or wheel setups that change the vehicle’s factory geometry or operating loads.

03

Electrical add-ons

Aftermarket remote starters, alarms, audio equipment, lighting, or non-factory wiring that may affect the repaired system.

04

Structural modifications

Frame changes, custom body work, or other substantial modifications that affect the vehicle’s original design or the repair performed.

Before requesting coverage

Help us review the concern accurately.

What information should I have ready?

Please have your repair order or invoice, current mileage, a description of the concern, and details about any modifications related to the affected system.

Does every modification void the warranty?

No. We review whether the modification is connected to the failure or interferes with the repair. Unrelated alterations are considered separately.

What determines the final coverage decision?

The vehicle inspection and the warranty terms shown on the applicable repair order or invoice determine coverage. Additional exclusions or limitations may apply to a specific repair.
